Crafty Fail

Sometimes I am delusional. I always get these grand ideas that I can make stuff. It’s not that I can’t do it, it’s that I don’t. I should know better. I buy yard after yard of fabric that sits here and collects dust with my sewing machine & serger. I do it thinking I can make dresses/diapers/blankets/pajamas/whatever cheaper than I could buy them… only I never actually do the making part. I’ve got PUL, a snap press & snaps, touchtape, you name it.

Another example of my delusions of grandeur? Hairbows and korkers for the girls. You see how far I got with that little project. Aside from shelling out the money to buy the supplies… all I’ve done was go out to buy a Rubbermaid tote to store them in. Yay, I win.

I also had every intention to relearn how to knit. I used to know how, so it should just come right back to me, right? I bought needles, skeins and skeins of yarn, stitch markers, even a special knitting bag. It sure looks pretty sitting on the floor of our junk room.

For awhile, I was on a soap making kick. I have so many molds, body-safe dyes and fragrances, soap bases… I also made wax tart melts, and have all the assorted paraphernalia for those as well. They’re currently all in storage in their own special plastic totes and bins.

Before that, I gave beading a try. I made bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and even cell phone charms. I have six or seven large bead boxes filled with all the different colors, findings, charms and clasps. I’ve got Swarovski crystals and silver block letters, and all the tools to put it all together.

You don’t even want to see how many scrapbook supplies I’ve bought and never used. I’ve never even started the baby book I was going to scrap for Lili, and she’s going to be eight in April. I have a feeling I won’t be getting it done any time soon.

And then there’s the nursery. I bought an unfinished pegboard and wooden airplane and cloud cutouts to paint and hang on the wall. I also bought the wooden letters to spell out their names and hang above the cribs. All are unfinished still. Of course, we still haven’t painted the walls, or built the second crib…

I think the only craft I ever have much follow-through with is tie dying. I do love to do that. Whenever I see my kids with white clothes, I’m just itching to dye them up into bright, happy colors.

I am the same way. I have all kinds of scrapbooking stuff that is just waiting to be used. I never get around to doing it. I have a bag filled with little wooden letters, frames and paints that I was going to make picture frames for my family 3 christmas’ ago. I love the idea of doing arts and crafts I just never set aside the time to do them.
