Back when I was pregnant with Raime, AOL was the cool place to hang out online. It was before MySpace, so there was no Facebook or Twitter or Instagram. Instead, we hung out in AOL chat rooms and on AOL message boards. So when I first found out I was pregnant, I joined a Due in August ’01 board. There were a bunch of ladies, from all walks of life, and all over the country (and even a couple outside of the country!) and we bonded.
These girls were so supportive when I lost Raime, and when I got pregnant with Lili and tried to join the Due in May ’02 board, it just didn’t feel like home. I found myself back with my August group anyway. In 2004, when I was a million months pregnant with Mia, we had a meet up in Vegas and they surprised me with a baby shower.
It’s been 11 years now, and our group has moved off of the now defunct AOL boards, to other assorted free message boards, then email loops and now a Facebook group. We still talk daily. Pretty crazy when you think about it!
We are such an eclectic mix of women. And because we’re different ages, a few are approaching menopause- some even have grandchildren! GASP! Which brings me to my point – (I swear I started this post with one in mind!) – it’s making my biological clock tick tick tick so loudly.
There’s a lot of talk in the blogging world about branding. You want people to see your name and site and know it’s you. I have felt like I needed some sort of logo or something for awhile, but I couldn’t think of anything that was just ME. Not when it’s paired with the name The TaterTwins. I’ve considered changing my blog name for a long time as well, and I’ve even bought the domain, but the idea of switching everything over is daunting. I don’t want to lose all the work I have put into this name.
I really wanted to figure out what to do before I head to BlogHer this summer. I finally decided to go back to my old stars and skulls stuff that I had on my blog back when it was still at the blogspot address. I missed it, and I feel like it’s more ME than what I had before. It’s still not a logo, but it will do for now.
I thought I had more to say, but I’ve been staring at this page for entirely too long and it’s time for playgroup!
