When life hands you lemons…

The key to having a great summer break with your kids is to have lots of things for them to do- to keep from hearing ‘I’m bored!’ all the time.  If money were no object, we could take the kids on awesome vacations and day trips to break up the monotony.  Unfortunately that isn’t the case and my kids have to make due with creating their own fun a lot of the time.  Luckily they’re quite good at that!

Lili has been asking about getting a job- she wants to have her own spending money.  Of course, 10 years olds aren’t exactly old enough for the workforce!  She’s been pretty creative thinking of things to do to earn some cash- washing cars, extra chores, and her current obsession- selling lemonade.

Target is chock full of great supplies for a lemonade stand!  We were sent an ice bucket, money box, sign, banner and a jug to get Lili started.  Then Aaron went and bought a bag of lemons and they juiced them and mixed up some fresh squeezed lemonade.  On the 4th of July, she and Mia set up and in the almost 100 degree heat managed to earn almost $10!

Target has so many inexpensive items available to spark the creativity and cure the boredom this summer.   It’s definitely been our go-to place for summer essentials, like beach toys, flip flops and more!  It’s easy to find the items your looking for- all you need to do is look for the giant beach balls, sunglasses and sand buckets to direct you to the displays of summer merchandise.

To preserve your summer memories, check out the “Summer-izer” Facebook application- this application allows you and your kids to add “Big Honkin’ Summer” icons to photos, and then share online or print at a local Target Photo Center.  I used it for the above photo- isn’t it fun?

Be sure to check out great indoor items, like the Kid Made Modern Board Book Kit and the Kid Made Modern Printed Tape Set for the days when it’s rainy or just too hot to play outside.  I know Lili is looking forward to working on the duct tape purse and wallet when the twins are napping one day.

What types of things are you doing this summer to make fun memories with your kids?

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Target and received products to facilitate my review, and to thank me for taking the time to participate.
