Well, it’s finally here. 24 weeks. Viability. The point in a pregnancy where a baby has a chance to survive if born- albeit not a great one and not without many potential complications. It’s an important time in pregnancy for me- because it seems as if that’s where things start going wrong if they are going to. We lost Raime at 23 weeks, Elora was born at 25 (and died 2 months later), and Connor was stillborn at 24 weeks. Having a good appointment lifts a weight off of my shoulders.
So now I’m focusing on 28 weeks.
My appointment update: I had an anatomy scan at my MFM today, and all seems to be going smoothly. The babies I lost all had IUGR- where they don’t grow to their full potential. My blood pressure issues are what leads to that. Elora weighed 500 grams at birth, which is approximately 1 lb, 1 oz. Generally, many hospitals consider 500 grams the cut off point for life-saving attempts, so passing this milestone is a huge relief to me.

He’s already got the family cheeks…
Since I am 24 weeks today, I figured Bacon was probably right around that point, and I was hoping he’d be at least that big so that I’d feel reassured that IUGR was not an imminent issue. I’ve been feeling a lot of movement, more than I remember from past pregnancies at this point. I’ve even been able to see and feel kicks from the outside, and coupled with the fact I just feel big, I wasn’t too surprised to hear the tech say that he was moving a lot. But I was a little shocked to hear that his weight is estimated at 1 lb 14 oz already!

Practicing his fist bump for our upcoming move to NJ.
Now for the not-so-fun news: The placenta is still covering my cervix. Boo. I know I’d have a c-section regardless, based on my history, however it’s still a complication in that I need to be on the look out for any bleeding and whatnot. Possible problem number two- his weight. He’s measuring in the 97th percentile. It could be a sign of gestational diabetes, so I have to head in for that test in the next week or two. And finally, my amniotic fluid levels are high, which they are going to keep an eye on.

Classy bathroom mirror self portrait.
Hmm. I think that’s about it. OH! Bacon is still a boy. We really need to work on finalizing a name.
And that wraps up another boring weekly update!

Yay!
You know, i had Daniel at 32 weeks, at 6.5lbs! It was due to the GD (and the Dr’s dropping the ball and not telling me I had it…). He was only in the NICU 15 days, and the drs there actually credited that his large size. Just saying that, cause GD could be a blessing in disguise. Not that I recommend eating every sugar cube in sight, definitely keep your sac strong with good nutrition. But if the worst you have is gestational diabetes, I say you and the little bacon have a great chance!
I’m SO happy that this was a positive appointment! This is such great news
Can’t wait to see what name you come up with!
I’m so sorry you’ve lost three babies. Praying for a healthy, happy, and (possibly hefty) little one!
I am so very happy that all seems to be well. I just know it will.
Not a boring update at all! Very pleased for you and your family.
