Word of the Year

Marcia always does a word of the year.  Last year I picked one, but I didn’t get as invested in it as she does.  I chose “treasure” for 2013, and while I didn’t go all out, I do feel like I did embrace it a little bit at least.  I definitely made a conscious effort to take more photos, especially of Bacon during this first year of his life since they change so fast.  I made all eight kids pose for me together a couple times as well, and I’m so happy to have those photos.

Treasure

I tried to remember that the kids will only be this little once, and that these phases don’t last forever, so I need to take the time to appreciate them.  I tried to have more patience, and more understanding.  I know that this is an area I will forever need improvement in, but I hope that a year of making it a focus will have turned it into a habit for the years to come.

So now for 2014, I want to choose another word.  And this time I want to go further with how I use it, and perhaps reevaluate my progress a few times over the course of the year.  I want the word to be able to encompass multiple areas of my life, as a boost or an upgrade.   Something to encourage me to make not just myself but my surroundings better.  There’s so much that I’d like to improve on…

So I took the word ‘improve’ and looked it up in the thesaurus and came up with the perfect word- ‘enhance’.

enhance

This year, I want to enhance several aspects of my life.  My heath could use an upgrade.  I’d love to boost my knowledge about certain things, like photography.  There are parts of my home that I’m dying to beautify and decorate- I have lots of plans that I’d like to put into action there.

And because organization is always at the top of my list when it comes to needing enhancement, I think the first thing I need to do now that I’ve sat down and chosen my word is just that!  I need to organize a list of what parts of my life I’ll be focusing, and make some long term and short term goals for each.

Do you have a word of the year?

Yes, indeed, I love the word of the year :)

    LOVE YOUR WORD!

What about every month when I write my goals I also do a little update of how my word’s working for me? And then you can either just comment there or write your own little post?

I love the idea of a word instead of a group of goals – it’s less pressure, but at the same time, relates to so many more aspects of our lives. Great word choice!
