NO SOUP FOR YOU!

I’m safe in NY, spent the afternoon with my mom.  But I want to talk about our trip up here- more specifically, the food on the way up.

For lunch yesterday, we stopped at Applebee’s- primarily because I LOVE their French onion soup.  I ordered my soup, and it didn’t come until after our meal.  Strike one.  And it wasn’t all the way hot- so the cheese wasn’t melty.  And the nummy bread inside?  Half of a burger bun.

The waitress never came back, so I couldn’t complain.  We sat there 15 minutes, our food gone, and the credit card sitting on the table waiting for the bill.  I had to flag down a different server to pay my check.  It wasn’t even busy- it was 1:30- 2pm on a weekday.  Our waitress finally came back over with the check for me to sign, and a refill on my drink…

I really wanted them to comp the soup, since it was nasty but I didn’t want to wait for however long that ordeal would have taken.

Dinner rolls around and I decide to go to Denny’s since I see a sign  that kids eat free Tuesday nights.  We order- I get a sandwich and soup.  Guess what never showed up?

If you guess my soup, you’re a winner!

At least it wasn’t on my check that time.

So the current score is -2 soups.  No soup for me.

Random Tuesday Thoughts. On Wednesday.

  • We’ve arrived safely in Philly.  Aaron and Ryan are at the eye doctor now, and I’m attempting to entertain the girls and Dylan in our hotel room.   Good times.  It’s not quite 9 am and they’re bored already, of course.  Mostly Lili, because Dylan is entertained by a piece of paper and Mia’s used to this routine.
  • Because I haven’t opened my reader since we left last week, I’ve got 1000+ blog entries to catch up on.  I don’t know the exact amount because it will only tell me 1000+.    Seriously, people!  It was a holiday, slow down!
  • Dylan can now pull himself up to standing.  He’s insane, he’s only 9 months old!  I didn’t give him permission to learn that yet!
  • Ryan has perfected his scootch worm crawling.  That boy can go FAST like that.  It’s so funny to watch, but his shirts get dirty fast LOL
  • WoW funny- My oldest son decided to play and bought himself a copy this weekend.  We set him all up and added him to our bank guild so it’s just Aaron and I he’s playing with… and anyway, yesterday he went to log on and it wouldn’t work.  He freaked out thinking he’d broken something and was frantically texting me- but it was Tuesday morning- aka server maintenance.  It’s probably only funny if you play WoW and have to deal with the realms being down every Tuesday.
  • Speaking of my oldest son, he’s pretty much as tall as me now.  Ack.
  • I have about as many pictures to upload and edit as I have blog posts to read… consider yourselves warned.
  • Can I vent for a minute- oh wait, yes I can, it’s my blog!  We have two pack & plays for the boys- one was Mia’s old one, so it’s over 5 years old now.  It works perfectly.  We bought a new one when the twins were born, a fancy schmancy one with a bassinet top and a changing table.  Last night when Aaron went to set it up, one of the sides won’t click open and up into place.  The mechanism is totally broken or something.  I think I need to write the company- it’s not even a year old!
  • And while I’m venting- I also ordered some clothes for the kids from a company that was having a 50% off sale.  I ordered coordinating outfits for the twins- in two different colors- that included hats, pants and short sleeve shirts.  They sent me a hat in a totally different color because they were out of the one I ordered, without even asking if that was ok or if I wanted to change stuff.  I’d have changed the colors on the whole outfit, you know?  They also changed something for Mia- from a skort to a bathing suit.  Big difference, eh?  They didn’t include the invoice, so I had to go searching through my emails.  They did send one lone pair of socks as a consolation.  Yippee.

Our day & bad service.

We were actually slightly productive today after all. We got our Suburban inspected, Aaron got a haircut, and we went to Babies R Us and Old Navy, where I found some great deals on clothes for the twins. I had the boys ride in the seat of the shopping cart for the first time. Well, I’d put one in before, and the other in their car seat because we have the portable buckets- but this time I left both car seats in the car. They were so cute! All the kids had baths & then I took naked pictures of the babies. The girls room is still a disaster though.

During our afternoon out, we decided to stop for dinner before coming home- you know, because of my random grocery trip yesterday. We went to Logan’s Roadhouse, somewhere we’ve been before, no big deal. They sat us right away, which was great, and came over to take our drink order immediately, also fabulous.

And then we waited. And waited. And waited.

Aaron asked another waitress if ours had gone on break or something after 15 minutes had passed. After another five minutes, I got up to let the hostess know that we hadn’t been waited on since the initial drink order was taken- and we hadn’t even received the drinks. She told me she’d been contacted by the server Aaron had spoken too and that she’d informed a manager.

After that, someone finally came to take care of us. Actually three people came over in a span of like two minutes. We gave them our drink order again, and ordered our dinners. Our drinks and salads and bread came out right away, no problems. Then the meals came out- well all of them except Mia’s. She had to wait another 10 minutes after we were served to get her grilled cheese sandwich.

Aaron’s meal came with mashed potatoes with gravy- only there was no gravy. One of our three servers said she’d be right back with a side dish of gravy for him and a drink refill, and never returned again the entire meal. When a different server came by as we were finishing up, we let him know they’d never brought the gravy.

The whole thing was really disappointing. It was by far the worst service I’ve received in a long time. With so many other restaurants in town, we definitely won’t be returning there!
