Please, Mister Postman, look and see! #murphyUSA #cbias

Our mailman is awesome- we get a lot of packages, and he’s always happy to get out of his truck and bring them up to our door with a smile.  We live on a little loop and often there are more cars than parking spots, so they are parked so close that he can’t get close to our mailbox in his truck- so he will have to get out to deliver the mail then as well.  And since it is that time of the year, I thought I’d put together a little package of snacks for him as a thank you gift.

We had several errands to do one afternoon last week, to prepare for our trip to NY.  In the process, we managed to put together a great little gift for the mailman while grabbing snacks at Murphy’s Express for our road trip.   You can check out all of our adventures right here.

After selecting several different types of snacks, we put together a cute package for the mailman, and hung it out on the flag of our mailbox.  The items we  chose varied- Chips Ahoy Minis, Eclipse Gum, Snyder’s Pretzels, M&M’s, and more!  I think he’ll enjoy it.

Yes, we still have pumpkins in our lawn.  The boys keep moving them around- we really need to get rid of them and decorate for Christmas!

Do you buy gifts for anyone outside of friends and family?

P.S.  You can find Murphy USA on Facebook & Twitter!

Night Out on the Town

I’d started another post, but that one will have to wait… I want to post this first. I started writing about dinner last night in my other post, and it morphed into this, and well, it needed it’s own entry :)

Last night we went out to eat. Just me and four little kids. I didn’t feel like cooking and we had been running errands, so I figured why not. About eighty brazillion people stopped me to tell me I was brave for bringing the kids out alone. I am not really sure what I am supposed to do while Aaron’s deployed- stay holed up in the house? I figure if I can take them to the post office, grocery shopping and whatnot, I can handle a trip to a restaurant where you don’t have to stand at a counter and order food.

Anyway, at the table next to us was an older couple, who told me that they were expecting twin grandbabies in the next month. They were really sweet- the husband ran out to the car and gave the girls each a gold $1 coin. Then they bought the kids dessert. He was a retired Marine, so we talked deployments and kids and whatnot. It was nice to have adult conversation.

Aaron and I have been blessed so many times by things like this. Twice since we’ve lived here, we’ve had random strangers pay for our meals. Not a small feat when you have a large crew! When we have had our losses, we were overwhelmed with the kindness of friends we made online. The support we received, and continue to receive, is amazing and I can’t even begin to figure out a way to repay everyone for it.

Our next door neighbors are wonderful as well. They treat our kids like they are their grandchildren. They help us out all the time, and are always thinking of us. From helping with our yard to bringing me coupons that we can use, they are just so helpful. When Aaron was deployed over Easter one year, we woke up to baskets for the kids on our front porch from them.

Sometimes, things seem so hard and overwhelming. But you know, it really all balances out! We are really lucky and blessed. We have a wonderful marriage, fabulous kids, amazing friends and family, and even random strangers are great!

Have you been the recipient of any random acts of kindness lately? How do you pay it forward?
