Playtime and After School Snacks #TysonGoodness #CBias

It’s been a super mild winter here in North Carolina.  In fact, today it was 65 degrees out!  I had a doctor’s appointment, and Aaron took the boys for a walk in the wagon to the PX where he got their hair cut.  After their trek, they really could have used a nap since it was that time of the day- but they were so thrilled to be outside we just let them play for the rest of the afternoon.

There was some 4-wheeling, some soccer, and lots of playing with what used to be our little solar lights.  They love rearranging them and taking them apart.  At one point, they started pointing them at each other and yelling ‘pew pew!’ like they were weapons.  I know Aaron and I haven’t taught them that, it’s amazing what they’ll pick up.  And I am pretty sure they didn’t get it from watching Bubble Guppies!  I swear it’s ingrained in the male DNA.

We were outside so long that before we knew it, the girls were home from school!  Mia and Aaron went inside for a bit, but Lili, the twins and I stayed outside.  The boys decided it was hysterical to chase Lili around and around the yard.

With all the activity and early lunches, the kids were starving at about 3:30.  We decided they couldn’t weight for dinner, and could use an after school snack.  Aaron and Mia microwaved some Tyson Mini Chicken Sandwiches that we had picked up on a recent Walmart shopping trip.   In just a few minutes, all four  kid were happily snacking and sufficiently held over until dinner time.

Right now you can receive a $5 Walmart gift card when you purchase 2 packages of Tyson Mini Chicken Sandwiches.  You can find out the details about this offer by clicking here.  Just a quick  note though- not all Walmart store carry them, so double check on TysonGoodness.com to make sure yours does before you make the trip.  You can also follow the conversation on twitter by using #TysonGoodness.

Stuff We’ve Been Doing.

  • Saturday was the March of Dimes walk.  After that, we packed up the kids and dropped them off with my dad & his wife.  They’re visiting and rented a beach house and offered to babysit for the night so Aaron and I could have a date.  Aaron and I went to dinner and then to see a movie.

  • Sunday we slept in, and then headed out to pick up the kids.  We ate lunch on the way.  When we got there, the boys were napping and the girls were playing on the beach.  We spent the afternoon hanging out with family.

  • Yesterday, as I was dressing the boys I noticed that while they have plenty of shorts for the summer, they are seriously lacking in shirts.  They’ve outgrown most of their tees from the fall, and Dylan’s belly hangs out.  I decided to head to my favorite thrift shop and see if I could find some bigger ones.  We also wandered the mall and hit up a cupcake shop I was dying to try.  No pics of the cupcakes because we inhaled them, but this is from their site.

    Are you drooling?

  • The girls missed the bus today.  Sigh.  I didn’t want to wake up the boys to bring them in, it always throws off the whole day when they get up before they’re ready, so I waited until they woke up and drove them in.   Since we were out, I brought the boys to the bookstore to play with the train table in the kids section.  They played for over an hour- they were so good.  I sipped coffee and talked to the other random moms that were there.

    Playing trains is serious business.

  • By the time I managed to pry the twins away from there, it was time to eat.  We grabbed lunch and came home, where the boys played in the yard for awhile.  Now they’re napping- they have been getting worn out lately!

    So is eating.

  • I’ve got a couple giveaways that I’m working and and will be posted soon, so keep your eye out!  Also, the Arby’s one is still going on!

Last week, this week, next week…

Last week was just, eh. With Connor’s birthday and then Raime’s…
Each year gets better, but it still kind of sneaks up on me. I notice I kind of withdraw and do whatever distracts me from thinking too much.

This week, Aaron and Ryan are in Philly.  His appointment with the ophthalmologist today went well-  there are no seeds left!  (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, here’s a post where Aaron explains about the seeds).  She wants us to continue with the patching- says we’ll probably be doing that for years.  She also things he doesn’t have much vision in the one eye- which explains why when we patch his better one, he calms down and gets all cuddly.  I’ve noticed he doesn’t play as hard or run around much when he’s wearing the patch.

Next week, the girls have spring break from school.  Often, Aaron will take leave that week, but since he is gone this week for Ryan’s appointments in Philly, he didn’t do that.  Boo.  I’m not sure what we’ll do, probably a lot of playgrounds and parks and outside-ness.

What do you all do to keep busy when your kids have off of school?

Two Tidbits

Last night Lili was shivering, when it wasn’t even cold.  Then I felt her head and woah- she was burning up.  Aaron and I spent the next however long trying to get her to swallow a Tylenol- she doesn’t do the liquid medicine, plus she’s too big.  She doesn’t like the taste of the chewable.   I had no idea how hard it was to teach a kid how to swallow a little tiny pill!

Once she figured it out though, she’s been good to go.  It keeps her fever at bay but she’s still not eating much, and she’s just not herself.  Right now she’s napping in my bed.  She was sad about missing school today.  And I was nervous about sending Mia all by herself.

We were at the store getting groceries- the whole gang of us- and Ryan really wanted to walk. Lili tied her scarf around his waist and proceeded to call him her pet and walk him like a dog. He loved it. He lead her up and down each aisle grinning from ear to ear. So I bought him a kid leash.

I know lots of people are anti-kid leashes, but I figured it was better than a scarf.

The boys took turns being the pet, and both of them loved the freedom. I loved having the room in the shopping cart for food instead of kids.

Today’s Post brought to you by DayQuil.

Urgh.

I feel like I’ve been backed over by a truck.

You know how people always complain that their husbands are huge babies when they have the tiniest cold, meanwhile when the wife is sick,  life goes on as usual?  Yeah, not in this house.  I’m the whiner.

Although, when I’m sick, I sleep more.  And it’s a good thing the boys have what I have, because they’ve been napping nicely with me all week.

I’m just ready to feel better!

In other news…

As I was waiting in the pick up line at the school this afternoon to get Lili, this woman road up on a crotch rocket motorcycle- wearing super high heels.  She could barely walk in them.  Then, she drove off with her little kid precariously perched on the back.  Yay, safety.  Kids are supposed to be in booster seats until 8 years old and 80 pounds here.  Not to mention the whole heels thing…

I’ve got nothing against motorcycles, I just don’t think this was a wise choice.  To be fair, the kid could have been 9 and 81 pounds, but it was probably a close call there.

The only other exciting thing that happened here today aside from the ability to breathe through one of my nostrils for a brief period of time was that the ice cream truck drove by, playing Christmas songs.  In February.

I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.  Oh wait- I already know.  Frenzied laundry and packing and 12 hours in the car.
