Silly Men!

Sometimes my husband baffles me.  The other day, he asked me if we should just get rid of our twin strollers since we don’t use them anymore.  I swear I looked at him like he had just grown a third eye on his forehead!

He’s always been a really hands on parent, so it’s not as  if he’s unaware of what it takes to deal with two toddler boys.  I couldn’t believe he didn’t think we used our strollers any more!  I keep one at the house and one in the van.  Granted, I’ve been using our choo-choo wagon way more often than the one at the house lately, but the one in the van still gets plenty of use.

Remember my recent post about the day I went to put the twins in the stroller when we were at the mall and I realized it had a flat tire?  That trip right there reminded me of just how necessary it is to contain Ryan and Dylan!

I’ve always loved strollers.  I can’t even name how many we’ve had through the years!  Singles, doubles, deluxe, simple umbrella, jogging- if it’s been invented, we’ve probably owned it at some point.  I think different strollers suit different needs.  I have one with big tires, for walks at the park and other outdoor places with potentially uneven ground.  However, those wheels are huge and cumbersome while at the mall, so I have another, more compact one we use there.

I think it will be awhile before my guys are officially too big to be strapped into a stroller.  It’s different with twins as well- when we just had one toddler, Aaron or I could carry a sleepy baby if we left the stroller behind.  With two, it’s so much harder to juggle everything.  I think even when we do ditch our double strollers, I’ll be sure to keep a single on hand, just so I can at least let one ride (and hold any potential shopping packages!)   Maybe a nice Maclaren stroller- I have yet to own one of those…

What age were your kids (especially if you have twins!) were you ready to get rid of your stroller(s)?

Stroller Love

Oh I love strollers. I’ve got a slight obsession. I am a firm believer that you need different strollers for different situations. We have a double Snap N Go stroller that was great- while they were newborns. I could leave them in their bucket seats, and it had a great basket and cup holder… but now that they’re older and heavier, it’s horrible to push and steer.

This lead me to believe I needed a side by side double. I eventually settled on a Combi. I could buy it locally and the price was right. I do like this stroller, it has a good fold and it’s easy to push. The boys like riding it it too. But, the basket is almost worthless, it’s got the bar right there so you can’t get a diaper bag into it. And there’s no parent cup holders.

I started noticing how much of a pain it is to get the side by side certain places. So many stores are just not equipped to handle it, even though it’s the size of a standard wheelchair. I have trouble in between racks when shopping, and fitting through some doorways. It’s a decent stroller though for the money we spent. It works great for walks, as long as I stay on the sidewalk. It doesn’t push well at all in grass.

After that, I decided what I REALLY needed was a tandem stroller that pushed well. Something with big wheels, and seats that weren’t so far apart that it made the stroller hard to steer. I researched for awhile and fell in love with the Jane PowerTwin. The only problem- it’s not a US made stroller, and it’s out of our price range.

Then one day, I found one on eBay. For $85. They retail for $500+. There was a little problem though- the front wheel was messed up and wouldn’t stay locked in the open position. It would randomly collapse. I had the seller take a few pics and Aaron determined he could fix it. I also found a site that sold replacement front ends for $60, so I figured if he couldn’t, we could go that route and it would still be a steal.

The Jane arrived and I LOVE this stroller. LOVE it. I can load it down with the twins, diaper bag, and tons of shopping bags and the thing still has a one handed push. I bought stroller liners for the seats, and they are fabulous because they are so easy to remove and wash when the boys spill or leak on them, plus they are just SO cute.  You might think that this is the end of my hunt for the perfect twin stroller, but there’s just one more I really would love to try. I want another side by side- one with bigger, all terrain wheels, for when I take walks.

My research has lead me to the Bumbleride Indie Twin. I want this thing more than I care to admit. I’ve even picked out which color I want, and what accessories I’d get. I know it will never happen though. Aaron doesn’t understand why we have as many strollers as we already own. And he’d totally notice if I spent that much! But a girl can dream, right?

I won’t even get into how many single strollers we’ve gone through over the years… or even all the other doubles we’ve had since most of my kids are super close in age!
