Lazy Saturday Night Banter

I woke up today, and felt like baking. I thought about how I should bake something super cool and yummy and take pics and blog about it, so that I have more than the one recipe to share with you all. All the cool bloggers do it. But then, I decided I NEEDED more Black Bottom Cupcakes, so you get no new recipe today.

When it comes to food, I tend to be a creature of habit. I make the same few things over and over. In high school, my mom packed my lunch every day and it was always a ham and cheese sandwich. I guess I stick with what I like. I am such a picky eater that sometimes there aren’t many options that sound appetizing to me.

Today’s been a lazy day. We haven’t left the house, let alone dressed- we’re all still in our jammies. We should be doing laundry and packing for Philly- we have to leave soon. More chemo and lasers to the eyes. Good times. I hope it’s not too cold and I really hope it doesn’t snow!

The twins went in for their monthly RSV shot yesterday and Ryan is up to 17 pounds! He was stuck at 16 for the past couple months, so I’m happy. He’s been eating a lot more lately too- I think he might be about to hit a growth spurt. Dylan on the other hand, is always in a growth spurt- and he’s 20 pounds already. Lili didn’t hit 20 pounds until she was 18 months old- so he’s a big guy. And weren’t they JUST 3 and 4 pounds the other day?

We got a package in the mail from Gymboree. I’d used my Gymbucks for some pants for the boys for next winter & also got them these cool hats for this summer. Dylan is such a little punk- he always looks like he has a bad attitude. He cracks me up. He looks so old here, I can’t even stand it.

I think they might be getting more teeth- Dylan has been chewing on everything and drooling gallons again. Ryan keeps using his tongue to feel his teeth and making weird faces when he does it. He also likes to make this clicking noise by rubbing his fingernails on his teeth. He’ll be laying there and we hear ‘click click click click’.

Oh! My not so exciting day at home just may be getting more interesting- something has possessed Aaron to attempt to bathe the dog. She hasn’t been washed since she was a puppy, and we always did it outside. He’s putting her in the tub. Also, she hates water- won’t go in her pool, the ocean, hides when it rains… I may be back with a funny story and some pictures!

Fatties! & Other Random Thoughts

  • The boys had their first of the monthly RSV shots on Thursday. They get weighed in just a diaper before they’re given the injections to be sure they’re getting the right amount since it’s based on weight. Dylan was 15 lbs 4 oz and Ryan was 14 lbs 5 oz! I can’t stand it- weren’ t they just three and four pounds?! They are only 4 months old, and they were seven weeks early! I can’t imagine what they’d weigh if they were still on the high calorie formula LOL
  • I love the weekends. Not just because I don’t have to get up at 6:45am to get Lili off to school, but because the girls crawl into bed with the twins and me every night and we sleep in and cuddle with and it’s just nice.
  • The twins and ME or the twins and I… crawl into bed with ME and the twins? Gah. It’s been too long since I’ve been in school. I think my brains need stimulation that Dora just cannot provide.
  • I’ve been watching old shows I DVRed ages ago. Like, back in May. Season finales of shows that started up again weeks ago… I’m so behind the times. I don’t even watch any of the ‘cool’ shows people talk about like Lost and Grey’s Anatomy. I’ve never seen an episode of either one of those.
  • Lili had a field trip to a farm on Friday. She came home with a big bag of HUGE sweet potatoes and wanted me to cook them for dinner. She doesn’t even like them. Neither does Mia. I am eh about them. Any suggestions as to what to do with a couple pounds of fresh sweet potatoes? Maybe I should bake and puree one and freeze it as baby food for the boys… of course I still need to figure out what to do with the rest…
  • The boys are starting to laugh out loud. It’s much easier to get Dylan to do it, but he smiles much easier as well. As long as his belly is full, he’s a happy boy. You have to work to get it out of Ryan, but when you do, it’s just that much sweeter.
  • Why are there so many catheter commercials on late at night?

Well Baby Appointment Update!

The boys are growing fantastically! Dylan is 12 lbs, 6 oz and Ryan is 11 lbs, 9 oz. Such big boys! The doctor was very happy with their weight gain, they went from being at the bottom of the charts to the normal range, and that wasn’t even taking their prematurity into consideration. Normally they adjust the ages and they didn’t even bother since they’ve grown so much.

As far as their spitting up, they think it’s reflux. But because they’re gaining so well, we won’t put them on meds for it. Also because of their weight gain, we’re officially off the high calorie preemie formula! Yay! We are going to try a soy based formula to see if it improves the amount they are refluxing. My big boys were on soy formula when I weaned them from nursing, because of milk intolerance, so it seems like the next logical step.

The monitors are another story, sigh. It’s like a huge lack of communication. When the memory in the monitors gets full, we call the company to come out and download them and send them to their doctors for interpretation. They were put on the monitors by the Neonatalogist in the NICU in Bigger-Than-TaterTown Ville, but we don’t see her anymore, we see the pediatrician at the Naval hospital. No one knows where the data is going, and in order to officially come off the monitors, the Neonatalogist wants a month of readings. The pediatrician said that because they’re well past their due dates, they won’t be having the apnea and bradycardia of a preemie anymore anyway.

Overall, both boys did beautifully, even if Ryan did pee on the doctor. They are hitting all their milestones as if they were not born 7 weeks early. I am so proud of them! (Now if only they’d sleep at night…)

BIG Boys!!

Is it possible that the boys weigh about 11 lbs each?
We weighed them by having Aaron hold them and stand on our scale and subtracting his weight…
Dylan was 11.2 and Ryan 10.6
